Dr. Ahmad Essa El Masarawi is renowned globally as a leading scholar in Quranic studies. Formerly the Grand Sheikh of Quraa in Egypt, he also served as the president of the board responsible for approving printed and audio copies of the Quran.
Born on March 1, 1953, in Dindit, Egypt, Dr. El Masarawi memorized the entire Quran by the age of 11 under the guidance of Sheikh Abdul Hamid Hajjaj. 

 

He pursued higher education at Al Azhar University, graduating from the Faculty of Qiraa-aat. He furthered his studies by earning a master's degree in both Qiraa-aat and Hadith. In 1992, he obtained a PhD in Hadith from Al Azhar University. 

 

Dr. El Masarawi had a number of functions and jobs, he worked as a teacher at Al Azhar institute between 1976 and 1993, and taught Islamic studies at Al Azhar University Department, then was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor and then Professor of the department itself.

 

Dr. El Masarawi holds Sanad and Ijazah in the ten Qiraa-aat via the Shaatibiyyah and Durrah, as well as the ten Major Qiraa-aat via the Tayyibah. Among his notable teachers are Sheikh Abdul Hakim Abdul Lateef and Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Hamid Abdullah.

 

Currently based in Qatar, Dr. El Masarawi leads several Quranic academies. He is a visiting professor at Sultan Abdul Hamid University in Malaysia and also serves as the head advisor at the Faculty of Qiraa-aat. In addition, he offers guidance to universities worldwide on Quranic education.

 

Dr. El Masarawi has led numerous workshops on the Quran and is a prominent figure in international Quranic competitions, often serving as the head judge. He has authored many books across different fields of Islamic Sciences, with one of his most significant works detailing the variations of the ten Quraa.
